There are many factors that can determine whether a fumigation (aka "tenting") for drywood termites is necessary. The two major factors are: (1) the amount of termite-infested areas in a building and (2) areas that are inaccessible for inspection, such as behind walls or between floors. This varies from structure to structure and only a licensed and skilled inspector can determine which is right for your home or business.
To understand localized/spot termite treatments, you first must know that these types of treatments are often a great way to treat specific areas discovered by a licensed inspector in visible and accessible areas. However, unlike fumigations that treat the entirety of a structure, localized/spot treatments can have limitations in their effectiveness. While many times they can be the appropriate plan of action, in some cases these may be considered a substandard form of treatment. At LBT&PC we will conduct a thorough inspection of your home or office and give you the best recommendation to keep the pests away. Schedule an inspection today and we will tailor a service that will give you peace of mind again.
There are over forty different types of termite species found throughout North America. In Los Angeles and Orange County, the most common termites are drywood, subterranean, and in some cases, dampwood termites. Subterranean termites live in the soil and create "shelter tubes" to travel from the soil into the wood framing of your home. When a home is fumigated for drywood termites, the subterranean termites will sense the fumigant and retreat into the soil, unharmed. Once the fumigation is complete and tent removed, the subterranean termites will travel back up their shelter tubes and continue were they left off, unaffected by the fumigation that just occurred. There are many ways to control subterranean termites, the most common is to treat the soil around the foundation. Give us a call and we can perform a complete inspection of your home or business and let you know if treating the entire foundation is needed, or if a localized/spot treatment to a small area is all you need.
